Serrano peppers originate from the mountainous region of south-central Mexico and can grow up to a height of 5 feet. They are hotter than Jalapeños, with a heat rating between 8,000 and 20,000 Scoville units, and are often utilized in uncooked dishes that call for a fresh and distinct flavor. The peppers can be harvested after 2 ½ months when they turn green, and reach maturity in colors of red, yellow, orange, or brown.
