Pinto beans have their origins in Mexico and are used in a lot of customary dishes from the area, such as refried beans. These beans usually need around 90 days to mature fully, but can be collected earlier and eaten as green snap beans. The plants are quite short, reaching an approximate height of 20 inches, and the seeds should be sown 4 inches away from each other, with 24-36 inches between rows. Since they are native to subtropical regions, pintos may be vulnerable to cold weather and tend to flourish best in a sandy yet fertile loam.
