One of the most versatile flowering crops, it is often planted in large quantities or used as an annual cover crop to attract and support beneficial insects and pollinators with its nectar-rich blooms. It is a fast-growing and easily cultivated plant, providing a valuable source of nectar for honeybees. This crop is able to tolerate low water conditions and poor soil quality. When used as a cover crop, it will naturally decompose relatively quickly, especially when exposed to temperatures as low as 18°F (-8°C). The plant produces beautiful furled flowers in a lavender color, held on tall and sturdy stems. These flowers are sometimes used in floral arrangements to create a casual and wildflower aesthetic. Additionally, it is commonly referred to by various names such as bee's friend, lacy phacelia, blue tansy, purple tansy, and lacy scorpion-weed. This crop is closely related to borage and can be found native to the United States and Mexico.
