Cosmos, an easy-to-grow plant, is ideal for both gardens and pollinator plantings. These vigorous plants produce beautiful flowers throughout a long season, adding a burst of vibrant color to any garden. Additionally, they serve as a valuable food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Unlike Cosmos bipinnatus types, the plant's tall yet open and airy architecture makes it less susceptible to lodging or falling over. This makes it an excellent choice for summer gardens. The blooms, ranging from 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide, come in various shades of orange and gold and are double or semi-double in form. While they can be used as cut flowers, they have a short vase life, typically dropping their petals after just five days. In addition to their ornamental value, cosmos flowers can also be used to create natural dyes for fibers and fabrics. These plants readily self-seed and are commonly known as Dyer's cosmos and sulfur cosmos. They are native to the Americas and Mexico.
