Butter Crunch lettuce varieties are popular for their buttery flavour and soft texture, as well as their small and loosely-formed heads. In comparison to many other lettuce types, these are more tolerant to heat. Because of this, it is recommended to plant them at the start or the end of the spring season, away from the blazing summer sun. They can also be started indoors a few weeks before the last frost. To protect them from the summer sun, it would be best to place them in partial shade or somewhere that is exposed to eastward exposure. It usually takes 55 to 60 days for Butter Crunch to reach maturity, so plan your planting accordingly. You can harvest the leaves during the entire growth cycle. Place the plants 10 to 12 inches apart and 12 inches between rows.
