Traditional cornflowers have a dark blue hue. They are tall plants which generate plentiful double and semi-double flowers that measure 1-1 1/2 inches wide. It prefers chillier climates. It is also referred to as cornflower, garden cornflower, and bachelor's buttons.
 
Edible Flowers: The petals of this edible plant can be used to adorn desserts. Centaurea is also a popular selection to jazz up a salad. The taste is mellow and faintly floral.
